SHOSHINGE DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM

Running 1st April 2019 through till 9th Dec 2019
with mid-term break 8th July through to 12th August
(17 study sessions in total)

Term 1:
Eight separate sessions with step by step study notes, audio clips and assignment suggestions
emailed to participants once every two weeks through till 24th June.
The course then takes an eight week break through to 26th July.
Term 2:
Nine separate sessions with step by step study notes, audio clips and assignment suggestions
emailed to participants once every two weeks through to 7th December 2019.

Includes the free postal delivery of the following publications to all participants:

The Collected Works of Shinran, Volume I and II, published by Jōdo Shinshū Hongwanji-ha, Kyoto, Japan. (CWS)
Song of True Shinjin and Three Pure Land Poems written by Gutoku Shinran.
Shinshū Gongyōshū published by Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii –Collection of Shinshu Services, published originally by the International Association of Buddhist Culture.
Jōdo Service Book. Revised Edition published by the Hongwanji International Centre.
All participants iwill also receive an electronic copy of the complete text to Rev Hisao Inagaki’s The Way of Nembutsu-Faith, A Commentary on Shinran’s Shoshinge Hymn of True Faith and Nembutsu which is now out of print and difficult to obtain.


We appreciate that some potential participants may already own copies of some of one or more of the publications used as essential reference throughout the Shoshinge course.

To coincide with celebrations of the 750th Memorial of Shinran Shonin held in Japan throughout 2011, the International Association of Buddhist Culture invited followers of Jodo Shinshu/Pure Land Buddhism from all over Europe to attend a special ‘pilgrimage’ conference in Kyoto, Japan. The theme of the conference was “Encountering”. Running to 182 pages, including glossy colour memorial photographs, SB10 contains the text of all the major speeches and presentations made throughout the two-day conference; including Legacy of Encounter between Jack Austin and Zuiken Inagaki by Gary Robinson … a year before he became Rev Daichi.

Shin Buddhist #11. £10 inc UK p&p
Running to a total of more than 230 pages, SB11 is presented in three sections. The first is a Remembrance and biography of Shaku Fridrich Fenzel. In 1982, Fenzi hosted the 2nd European Shin Conference held in Scheibbs on the outskirts of Vienna, Austria. He continued to participate in the biennial conferences until 1998, when he attended the tenth ESC, held that year in Oxford, UK.
Section 2 contains the unexpurgated text of 18 of the presentations made at the 16th ESC held in conjunction with 15th IASBS European Branch conference, that took place at Eko House in Düsseldorf, Germany in 2012. Contributors include: Kenneth Tanaka, Toshikazu Arai, Fons Martin (Belgium), Marta Dusuza (Poland) and Marcus Cumberledge.
Section 3 contains the unexpurgated text of 18 of the presentations made at the 17th ESC held in conjunction with 15th IASBS European Branch conference, which took place at the Southampton Solent University Conference Centre, UK in 2014. Contributors include: Jim Pym, Ilona Evers (Germany), Iulia Dinca (Romania).
